Neighborhood being evacuated as flames approach in Seferihisar
Atatürk Neighborhood in İzmir's Seferihisar district is being evacuated as flames from a forest fire approach. Residents, warned by AFAD and gendarmerie teams via announcements and whistles, left their homes in a panic.
The fire, which began yesterday on the border of Menderes and Seferihisar districts, continues to be effective on its second day. The fire, which spread to residential areas due to strong winds, had reduced dozens of summer houses to ashes yesterday.
Today, in the evening hours, the flames approached houses located in Doğanbey Atatürk Neighborhood. Residents, warned by AFAD and gendarmerie teams via announcements and whistles, left their homes in a panic.

"WE WERE SO ACCUSTOMED TO THIS PLACE"
Necati Karaçalı, one of the citizens evacuating his home, said, "We are sad, we are very sad. We were so accustomed to this place. The teams asked us to evacuate, they said 'clear out,' so we are clearing out the houses now."

Citizens who got into their vehicles formed a virtual convoy at the exit of the neighborhood. Gendarmerie teams and local residents ensured safe passage. Meanwhile, gendarmerie teams also rescued animals left behind in the houses.
