Heavy rainfall in the Akyazı district of Sakarya caused flooding in the Yağcılar neighborhood. As the Yağcılar Creek, which runs through the neighborhood, overflowed, streets and roads were quickly submerged.
The imam and citizens who had come to the neighborhood mosque for the Isha prayer found that the roads had turned into streams when they stepped outside after worship. Due to the water level rising to knee-height in some areas, the congregation had difficulty leaving the mosque.
Local youths came to the aid of the imam and the citizens stranded in the middle of the floodwaters using a small boat. The youths helped those trapped in the mosque board the boat one by one and transported them to safe areas.
It was learned that some citizens were taken to their homes, while others were taken to the local tea house. In footage recorded by a mobile phone camera, the boat could be seen moving through the water-covered street, and citizens were being transported in a controlled manner due to the flooding.
It was stated that the heavy rainfall, which was effective across Sakarya, negatively impacted life in Akyazı.
