The election for the acting mayor of the Yahşihan district in Kırıkkale has concluded. In the vote held at the Yahşihan Municipal Council, AKP council member Hamdi Açıkgöz was elected as the acting mayor.
The process began after Yahşihan Acting Mayor Aydın Demirdirek was arrested as part of a corruption investigation into the municipality and was suspended from his duties by the Ministry of Interior as a temporary measure.
Thirteen council members cast their votes in a closed-door meeting held at the municipal wedding hall. AKP member Hamdi Açıkgöz, independent candidate Hacer Çavdar, and MHP member Tuğrul Yurtoğlu ran for the position.
In the election, which went to a fourth round, Açıkgöz was appointed acting mayor after receiving 10 votes. MHP member Yurtoğlu received 2 votes, while 1 vote was cast blank. Independent candidate Hacer Çavdar was unable to compete in the fourth round as she did not receive enough votes in the third round.
Following the announcement of the results, Açıkgöz and his associates moved to the municipal building. In a statement to reporters at the mayor's office, Açıkgöz stated that a difficult process awaits them and wished for the result to be beneficial.
Meanwhile, the MHP Kırıkkale Provincial Presidency announced that Tuğrul Yurtoğlu had declared his candidacy in violation of the decision to support the People's Alliance candidate. The statement reported that it was decided to refer Yurtoğlu to the disciplinary board due to his "attitudes and behaviors contrary to party discipline."
