New development in the '33 dead cats' atrocity in İzmir

The incident occurred last Thursday around 10:00 AM on Adnan Kahveci Street in the Barış neighborhood of the Buca district.

According to the information obtained, İlhan Güngör, a local shopkeeper who noticed dead cats in bags inside a trash container, reported the situation to the police. Upon receiving the report, police teams arrived at the scene and determined that there were a total of 33 dead cats, some of which were kittens, inside the bags.

Following the atrocity, police teams launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of death of the cats and who was responsible for dumping them in the trash.

As a result of the meticulous work, veterinarian H.E., who was determined to have a connection to the incident, was detained under the instructions of the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. After completing the procedures at the police station, H.E. was referred to the duty magistrate judge with a request for arrest on charges of 'intentionally polluting the environment' and 'intentionally killing a pet or domestic animal.'

Re-detained following the Prosecutor's Office appeal

After the suspect H.E. was released by the duty magistrate judge under judicial control measures, the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office officially appealed the decision. Following the Prosecutor's Office's appeal, a re-examination of the file was conducted. As a result of the review, the İzmir 55th Criminal Court of First Instance found the appeal justified and accepted it. In accordance with the new decision, veterinarian H.E. was apprehended by police teams and taken back into custody.
