New information has emerged regarding the search efforts for a vehicle that fell into a creek following heavy rainfall in the Başiskele district of Kocaeli. It has been learned that the missing person, who is believed to have been in the vehicle, is M.G., the headman of Yaylacık Neighborhood.
It was stated that the incident occurred in Ovacık Neighborhood in the early hours of the morning. According to the information obtained, M.G. wanted to return home after staying with his wife in a shed on their field in the neighborhood, as the rainfall intensified. It was reported that M.G., who told his wife, “Let me go get the car, then we will head home,” could not be reached for some time.
A search operation was launched in the area following his wife's report. Upon examination of security camera footage, it was assessed that the vehicle had been swept away by floodwaters, and teams found the vehicle overturned in the creek bed approximately 2 kilometers from the scene of the incident.
Efforts are also underway to remove the vehicle from the creek with the help of construction equipment, as part of the operation involving AFAD, police, medical teams, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality search and rescue teams, and the Kindness and Life Association (İyilik ve Yaşam Derneği). Family members who arrived at the scene are waiting for news about M.G.
Göksel Öztonga, who lives in the region, stated that the headman had been staying in the shed on the field with his wife and said, “When the rain became very intense, he wanted to take his car and head to his house. He fell into the creek bed with his vehicle. His wife says he was inside and reported it. It is said that someone can be seen in the water in the camera recordings.”
