New urinary tract created using tissue taken from inside the mouth

Prof. Çağatay by Dr. Özsoyfor the first time in Aydın, using tissue taken frominside themouth, a urethral stricturesurgery (Buccal Mucosal Graft Urethroplasty) wassuccessfully performedwas performed.In the evaluations, for a 55-year-old patient who presented withdifficultyinurination,a urethral stricturewas detected. Previously The patient, who had previously undergone many closedstricture dilationsurgeries, was determinedto be in need of a permanent treatment,and thereforeit was decided to perform a urethroplastysurgery. During the operation, tissue from inside the mouthA 4-5 cm piece of tissue taken frominside the mouth (buccal mucosal graft) was applied as a patch to the urethraand the narrowedregion wassuccessfully reconstructed.

The surgery wasperformedDr. Özsoy stated that buccal mucosal graft urethroplasty is the current standard treatment for recurrent urethral strictures,andnoted thatthismethod has a highsuccess rate,duelowrecurrence risk and long-termlastingresultsdrew attention. Tissue frominside the mthanks to the rapid healing of the grafts taken, patients canreturn to their dailylives in a shortperiod of time, he stated.
