Non-commissioned officer drowns in river he entered to cool off
A non-commissioned sergeant who entered a river to cool off in the Terme district of Samsun has drowned.
The incident occurred in the Akçay River, located in the district's Akçay neighborhood. According to the information obtained, Gendarmerie Non-commissioned Sergeant Hakan Fidan (24), who had gone to the riverside to relax with his friends, entered the river after a while. Losing his balance in the deep part of the river, Fidan began to struggle in the water.
Meanwhile, his friends, who tried to save the young non-commissioned officer in the river, notified the 112 Emergency Call Center. Upon the report, health, gendarmerie, and fire department teams were dispatched to the area. Diver teams from the Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Ünye Fire Department reached the lifeless body of the young non-commissioned officer at a depth of approximately 6 meters.
Examinations conducted by medical teams at the scene determined that the non-commissioned officer had lost his life. The body of the non-commissioned officer was taken to a private hospital in the Ünye district of Ordu.
It was learned that 24-year-old Hakan Fidan, who was stationed in the Gebze district of Kocaeli, served as a team commander and had come to the Ünye district of Ordu to visit his family for his annual leave.
Crime scene investigation teams from the Terme District Gendarmerie Command and the prosecutor conducted investigations in the area where the incident took place.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
