Number of detentions rises to 29 in death of 2 people electrocuted
In the investigation into the deaths of 2 people who were electrocuted during heavy rain in the Konak district of İzmir, the number of people for whom detention warrants were issued has risen to 35, with 29 now in custody.
While 4 of the suspects were released following their statements under the prosecutor's instructions, it was learned that efforts to apprehend 6 other suspects are ongoing.
Last Friday, heavy rainfall in the Alsancak neighborhood of İzmir's Konak district turned streets and avenues into lakes, during which Özge Ceren Deniz (23) and İnanç Öktemay (44) were caught in the rain.
Özge Ceren Deniz, a 5th-year medical student at İzmir Democracy University, and her friend İnanç Öktemay, who wanted to cross through a puddle on the road, lost their lives after being electrocuted in the water.
The number of people for whom detention warrants were issued in the investigation launched into the incident has risen to 35.
While 29 of the suspects were taken into custody by teams from the Public Security Branch's Murder Bureau, 4 of those apprehended were released after their statements under the prosecutor's instructions. It was noted that efforts to apprehend the 6 remaining suspects are continuing.
