Rat repellent method sends apartment residents to the hospital
In Tokat, two women burned sulfur and denatured alcohol on the roof of a building to drive away rats. Four people affected by the chemical smoke that engulfed the apartment were taken to the hospital.
The incident, which took place at F Block of the Oğulkent Site on Derbent Street in the Bedestenilioğlu neighborhood, caused moments of fear for the residents. According to allegations, two women tried to create smoke by burning sulfur in the attic to get rid of rats seen in the apartment.
However, an unexpected chemical reaction occurred when denatured alcohol was poured over the sulfur and ignited. As a result of the method the women tried to drive the rats away with smoke, the dense chemical smoke spreading from the roof filled the entire apartment within seconds.

Apartment residents struggled to breathe and panicked, rushing to their balconies. Upon notification of the situation, Tokat Municipality fire crews were dispatched to the scene. Citizens who were trapped inside because the corridors were filled with smoke were rescued using fire ladders. While 4 citizens affected by the smoke were taken to various hospitals in the city, the two women who started the fire were sent to the police station to give their statements.
An investigation into the incident has been launched.
