Retired non-commissioned officer who went missing in the Cilo Mountains has died

The lifeless body of 61-year-old mountaineer Yüksel Işık, who had gone missing during a climb in the Cilo Mountains in Hakkari, has been found.

It was reported that retired non-commissioned officer Işık, who arrived in the region from Bursa on July 13, went missing after climbing to the Süpha Dürek summit from the Bala Plateau in the Heaven and Hell Valley (Cennet Cehennem Vadisi).

The search operations launched to find Işık involved the AFAD Provincial Directorate, Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK), UMKE, gendarmerie teams, and security guards. Teams from the AFAD provincial directorates of Van, Erzurum, Diyarbakır, Bursa, and Sakarya also supported the search activities.

The operations, which also included members of the Cilo Sat Lakes and Glaciers Mountaineering and Nature Sports Club and the Bursa Search and Rescue Sports Club Association, were carried out in rugged cliffs and challenging terrain conditions.

As a result of the search conducted by the teams, Işık's lifeless body was reached. The body is expected to be retrieved from the area by helicopter and taken to the Hakkari State Hospital morgue.
