Shepherd's controversial defense: He started 3 forest fires, causing damage to 4 hectares

A shepherd named Murat Kaya, who was determined to have started 3 forest fires in the Tazı Canyon within the last month, was apprehended by JASAT and Beşkonak Gendarmerie teams.

The suspect, who was arrested by the court he was brought before, stated that he started the fires because he was angry at the forest rangers following the Manavgat Municipality's winning of the tender for the Tazı Canyon.

GENDARMERIE FOCUSED ON POSSIBILITY OF SABOTAGE

The fact that approximately 4.5 hectares of forest area were damaged in the forest fires that occurred within the last month in the area known locally as Tazı Canyon in the İbliz locality of Gaziler Neighborhood raised the possibility that the fires were an act of sabotage.

The forest fires that broke out after the Manavgat Municipality won the tender for the Tazı Canyon put the Gendarmerie on alert.

As a result of the work carried out by the Manavgat District Gendarmerie Command, the Gendarmerie's detectives (JASAT), and the Beşkonak Gendarmerie Station teams, Murat Kaya (33), who was determined to be a shepherd in the region and the person who started the fires, was apprehended in a short time.

It was reported that Murat Kaya, who stated in his testimony that he started the fires because he was angry at the forest rangers, was arrested by the court and sent to Ilıca Prison.
