Statement from Antalya Governor Şahin regarding heavy rainfall in Manavgat

Şahin conducted inspections in Manavgat, where the General Directorate of Meteorology had issued an "orange" alert for rainfall and where flooding occurred.

Making a statement following the "Disaster Response Evaluation Meeting" at the Manavgat District Governorate, Governor Şahin stated that they had made preparations under the coordination of AFAD following the heavy rainfall warning for the city and had deployed teams accordingly.

Şahin stated that 2,260 personnel were involved in the efforts with approximately 800 construction machines and other equipment, saying, "Except for Manavgat, we did not encounter any serious negative situations in our other districts. In Manavgat, we received a massive rainfall of 106 kilograms in a short time. Especially in our Sarılar neighborhood region, reports of flooding came in along with the heavy rainfall. We received around 500 reports in total. The majority of these reports were about flooding in workplaces and residences. We have intervened in these and continue to do so."

Emphasizing that all teams are working in the field, Governor Şahin noted the following:

"Thankfully, we have no loss of life. The rain has also decreased in intensity. We have 2 injured. One citizen has a broken leg after hitting it against a cabinet. There is also an elderly woman suffering from hypothermia. Other than that, there are no injuries, but there are many damage records. We will start damage assessment work starting tomorrow.

They will continue water evacuation throughout the night. Starting tomorrow, our volunteers and gendarmerie teams will assist our citizens whose homes have been flooded, damaged, and who are struggling with mud.

We will fulfill all the requests of our citizens in this regard. Our Manavgat District Governorate will provide financial assistance from the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation to those in need of urgent economic support.

We are placing the citizens we have evacuated into guesthouses, primarily our practice hotel."
