Statement on 'ticks' from the Sivas Governor's Office

In a meeting attended by Sivas Governor Yılmaz Şimşek, Mayor Adem Uzun, and representatives of relevant institutions, the evaluation of tick cases and the measures taken were discussed. Speaking to the press after the meeting, Governor Şimşek stated that tick-borne cases and deaths have become a significant agenda item for the public.

Governor Şimşek stated that 39 CCHF cases have been identified in 2025, and 6 of these cases have resulted in death. He also noted that a patient referred from Tokat passed away in Sivas. The Governor expressed his condolences to those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the patients undergoing treatment.

FIGHT AGAINST TICKS

Governor Şimşek emphasized that tick cases are concentrated particularly in rural areas and that individuals engaged in livestock and farming in these regions are at higher risk. Within the scope of the fight against ticks, he stated that under the coordination of the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, spraying operations for animals are being carried out in high-risk areas and tick repellent is being distributed to villages. He also said that education and awareness activities for citizens living in rural areas are continuing.

LATEST STATUS IN VACCINE STUDIES

Announcing that significant progress has been made in the vaccine studies conducted by the Sivas Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Medicine, Governor Şimşek stated that the DNA-based vaccine has reached the Phase 1 stage and that it is aimed to be introduced to the medical world in the near future.

PARTRIDGE HUNTING REGULATIONS

Touching upon the issue of partridge hunting, which has been discussed in the public eye, Governor Şimşek stated that partridge hunting is currently prohibited in Sivas and that there is no definitive information that partridges provide a solution to the tick problem. He emphasized that misinformation on this subject should be prevented.
