Street where Çatalca Mufti's Office is located renamed 'Volkan Konak'
The Çatalca Municipal Council has unanimously decided to rename the street where the Çatalca Mufti's Office building is located to Volkan Konak Street.
The Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) had previously launched an investigation into Çatalca Mufti Ahmet Mehmetalioğlu, who used the phrase "he croaked on stage" in reference to artist Volkan Konak, who had passed away during a concert in the TRNC.
According to a report by Ercan Öztürk from MedyaRadar, the motion to rename Nar Street, where the Çatalca Mufti's Office building is located, was put to a vote during the March session of the Çatalca Municipal Council held today.
In the vote, the street where the Çatalca Mufti's Office is located was named Volkan Konak Street with the votes of both CHP and AKP council members.
Çatalca Mayor Erhan Güzel announced the council's decision with the following words: "We will keep the name of our esteemed artist Volkan Konak, who touches the hearts of millions with his art and always inspires respect with his stance, alive in our Çatalca. The name of Nar Street, located right behind the District Mufti's Office building, has been changed to 'Volkan Konak Street' with the unanimous decision we took at the 1st session of our Çatalca Municipal Council in April. I wish the decision taken at the 1st session of the Çatalca Municipal Council in April, which we held today, to be beneficial to our district, and I thank all our council members."
