Taxi driver fined 141 thousand liras for not turning on taximeter after picking up tourist

On Tershane Street in Beyoğlu, a tourist got into a taxi and wanted to go to the hotel where they were staying in Gümüşsuyu Neighborhood.

The taxi driver did not turn on the taximeter during the journey, despite having a passenger in the vehicle.

Those moments spread quickly on social media. Following the footage, teams from the Istanbul Police Department Traffic Inspection Branch took action.

As a result of the work carried out by the teams, the identity of the taxi driver was determined.

The taxi driver, who was fined 141 thousand 500 liras, was also processed for the crime of 'fraud'

The taxi driver, H.A. (43), whose identity was determined by the teams, was taken into custody inside the taxi.

The taxi driver, whose procedures were completed at the police station, was issued an administrative traffic fine of 141 thousand 500 Turkish Liras in accordance with the articles of the Highway Traffic Law regarding 'not using a taximeter in cars providing taxi services', 'not complying with road markings', and 'not using a seat belt'.

On the other hand, proceedings were also initiated against the individual for the crime of 'fraud'. It was learned that the suspect would be referred to judicial authorities for this crime. In addition, while H.A.'s commercial taxi driver card was revoked, his vehicle was banned from traffic.
