In the Tosya district of Kastamonu, a couple who fell ill after eating cherries they picked from a tree reported to have been sprayed with pesticide have both passed away.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 1, in the village of Karabey, attached to Tosya. Ahmet Derin and his wife, Rahime Derin, became ill a short time after eating the cherries they had picked from the tree.

Upon notification by their relatives, medical teams arrived at the village and transported the couple to Tosya State Hospital. Ahmet Derin, who was transferred to Kastamonu Training and Research Hospital following initial intervention there, could not be saved despite all medical efforts on July 3.

It was learned that Rahime Derin, who was continuing her treatment at the hospital, also lost her life yesterday. It is assessed that the tree from which the couple ate the cherries had been sprayed with agricultural pesticide approximately 15 days before the incident, and that the poisoning may have occurred for this reason.
