The plea of a visually impaired mother

Sermin Aslan, who lives in the Muratpaşa district of Antalya and holds a 90 percent visual impairment report, is anxious about ending up on the street with her daughter, who will start high school this year.

After separating from her husband in 2016 and moving into the ground floor of an apartment building, the disability pension the mother receives is not enough for the Aslan family.

Sermin Aslan's annual rent had been paid by a philanthropist. With her contract ending in June, the mother and daughter are once again left to face the fear of being evicted from their home.

"I CANNOT AFFORD SCHOOL SUPPLIES"

Claiming that her landlord knocks on the door every day to harass them, Sermin Aslan said, “I have a 90 percent visual impairment report, and I have no job. I am trying to get by on my 5,000 TL disability pension, and the house I live in is rented. My landlord has been bothering me since May, saying, 'Get out of my house.' We looked for a house but couldn't find one. I am paying 5,000 TL in rent, and the landlord wants 7,000 TL.

Last year, a philanthropist covered our rent, but our contract ended in June.

We are in a difficult situation; I have a 14-year-old daughter. She will start high school this year, and I cannot afford my child's school supplies. I am calling out to benevolent citizens here; for the sake of God, please reach out to us and help us,” she said.

"HE COMES EVERY DAY AND HARASSES ME"

Stating that her daughter will start high school this year, Aslan expressed her desperation as follows: “I want them to help us with the rent. Schools are starting; my child has school needs, transportation, and the school is very far away. I have been living in this house for 7 years, and we have entered our 8th year.

The landlord says, 'If you leave, I can rent this place out for 10 or 15.' He comes every day and harasses me. He came yesterday and rang the bell, but I didn't open it. I am sad, I am desperate, I have nowhere to go. I have no one to look after me. I don't want to end up on the street with my child.

I separated from my husband in 2016. He doesn't call or ask, he doesn't ask if the child has any needs. I am trying to manage and keep up on my own, but I cannot. If they give me packaging work to do at home, I can do it. I want our benevolent citizens to help us.”
