Tragic incident in Pendik: Young woman with Down syndrome throws 40-day-old baby from 7th floor

A horrific incident occurred in the Kurtköy neighborhood of Istanbul's Pendik district.

The incident took place yesterday evening (October 14) at approximately 17:15 in a 6-story apartment building in the Kurtköy neighborhood of Pendik, Istanbul.

According to the information obtained, 17-year-old İlayda Nur Ö. went to visit neighbors Murat and Sultan D. yesterday evening (October 14) at around 17:15 with her grandmother, Huriye S. While the families were having a barbecue on the terrace, İlayda Nur Ö., who has Down syndrome, went downstairs unnoticed.

BABY LOST HIS LIFE

She threw 40-day-old baby Emin Egemen D., who was lying in his crib, out of the window. Upon notification, medical teams arrived at the scene and determined that the baby had lost his life. While police teams took security measures in the area, crime scene investigation teams also conducted work. İlayda Nur Ö. and her grandmother Huriye S. were taken into custody by police teams. While the lifeless body of the 40-day-old baby was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute Morgue, the police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Kurtköy Neighborhood Headman Hüseyin Ekşi stated, “A child of ours with Down syndrome goes to visit her neighbor with her grandmother. While the families were having a barbecue on the terrace, our daughter with Down syndrome enters the room of our 40-day-old baby unnoticed. Because she has a disability, she throws the baby out of the window without realizing it. As a neighborhood, we are very saddened by this tragic event. May God give patience to our family. The investigations by official authorities and the police are ongoing. I wish our neighborhood a speedy recovery from this tragedy.”
