Two 11-year-old children drown
Two 11-year-old children who entered a pond to cool off in Afyonkarahisar have drowned.
The incident occurred in the Yaylabağı town of İhsaniye district. According to the information obtained, 11-year-olds A.A.K. and M.E.Ö. entered a pond, which was partially swampy, to cool off. After a while, local residents who noticed the children had disappeared from sight reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center and requested help.
Upon the report, the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), health, gendarmerie, and fire department teams were dispatched to the area. The AFAD teams that arrived at the scene reached the lifeless bodies of the children after a search that lasted approximately 15 minutes. Following the examination, the bodies of the two children were taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute morgue at Afyonkarahisar State Hospital for autopsy.
The bodies of the two children, whose procedures were completed at the hospital, were later handed over to their families. The funerals of the two children were brought to the cemetery in the Yaylabağı town and were laid to rest after the funeral prayer held there.
During the funeral, where tears flowed like a flood, family members of the children suffered nervous breakdowns.
On the other hand, it was reported that the investigation launched by the prosecutor's office regarding the incident is ongoing.
