Verdict in the case of the knife attack on a 16-year-old female student in Iğdır: No sentence reduction applied
A verdict has been reached in the case of a 16-year-old female student who was attacked with a knife while on her way to school in Iğdır. The court sentenced the defendant to prison without any reduction for the crime of "attempted intentional murder of a child and a woman with monstrous intent."
The incident occurred on February 10 at approximately 07:40 in the morning on Cumhuriyet Street in the Cumhuriyet neighborhood.
16-year-old D.B., who was on her way to school, was subjected to a knife attack by 23-year-old Y.B.
The child, who was injured by the knife blows, was taken to Iğdır Dr. Nevruz State Hospital by an ambulance called to the scene and placed under treatment.
The perpetrator of the attack, Y.B., was taken into custody by police teams following the incident.
Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Iğdır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, evidence was collected in a short time and an indictment was prepared on February 17, 2026.
Following the court's acceptance of the indictment, the first hearing of the case was held on February 26.
SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS IN PRISON
As a result of the trial held at the Iğdır 2nd High Criminal Court, the case was concluded on March 5.
The court sentenced the defendant Y.B. to 20 years in prison for the crime of "attempted intentional murder of a child and a woman with monstrous intent" without applying any sentence reduction.
Thus, the investigation and trial process carried out following the incident was completed in a total of 23 days.
