Warning from authorities regarding the Asian Tiger mosquito

As part of the work carried out by the daytime teams, barns, septic tanks, toilet pits, breeding grounds, and stagnant water pools are being sprayed in 64 neighborhoods and adjacent areas. The teams, which are about to complete their third round of work, are also continuing their preparations for the fourth round of the spraying program.

In addition to the work continuing with 4 teams during the day, nighttime spraying activities have also been initiated. Within the scope of the program created by the directorate, spraying is carried out with 5 vehicles at least 2 days a week in the regions within the area of responsibility.

If weather conditions are favorable, the fight against flying insects will continue uninterrupted for 3 months between June 15 and September 15.

Attention to the Asian Tiger Mosquito

The Düzce Municipality Veterinary Affairs Directorate warned citizens to be careful about the Asian Tiger mosquito, an invasive species, and stated the following: "The mosquito species known as the Asian Tiger, an invasive species that has spread in the Northern Regions of our country in the last 5 years, continues to multiply and cause discomfort in our region and province. The difference of this species from existing species is that it can lay eggs in clean water. This situation creates suitable breeding grounds for the mosquito in our province, where garden vegetable growing and hobby gardening are intensively practiced. Water stored or accumulated without any preventive measures (traps or screens) becomes a natural breeding ground. It is difficult for teams to find, spray, or drain these areas. This situation makes it difficult to control and eradicate the population, and limits the success of the efforts made."

Call for precautions against water accumulation

In the statement made by the directorate, it was stated that areas where water is collected should be kept closed to protect family health, as well as the health of the environment and neighbors. The statement expressed that regularly draining or weekly changing of accumulated water would reduce the reproduction rate of mosquitoes, and citizens were asked to take the necessary precautions.
