Halk TV Editorial Director and journalist Dinçer Gökçe detained

Halk TV Editorial Director and journalist Dinçer Gökçe is the subject of an investigation launched by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information.”

Gökçe has been detained.

REASON REVEALED

A verdict was announced in February 2022 in the trial of a 28-defendant criminal organization known as the ‘Döner Brothers,’ who were prosecuted for their involvement in 16 separate criminal acts. In the ruling issued by the Bakırköy 20th High Criminal Court, Emirhan Döner was sentenced to a total of 44 years and 3 months in prison for crimes including 'establishing and managing an organization,' 'usury,' 'qualified assault,' 'threats,' 'inciting qualified assault,' 'deprivation of liberty,' and 'violation of Law No. 6136.'

Emirhan Döner's brother, Turhan Döner, was sentenced to a total of 34 years and 10 months in prison for 'assault,' 'threats,' 'inciting assault,' 'deprivation of liberty,' 'usury,' 'violation of Law No. 6136,' and 'managing an organization.' Following recent reports suggesting that the convicts would be released, information was obtained indicating that while convict Emirhan Döner had been released in relation to a different crime, both Turhan Döner and Emirhan Döner continue to serve their sentences for their primary, finalized convictions at the Edirne F-Type and Kırıkkale F-Type prisons, respectively. It was also learned that convict Turhan Döner is eligible for conditional release in 2036, and convict Emirhan Döner in 2040. Judicial sources stated that the reports claiming release orders had been sent to the prison and that they had been released were entirely erroneous, did not reflect the truth, and misled the public.

Stating that the public was misled by the publication of false news regarding the incident, the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into Dinçer Gökçe, the Responsible Editorial Director of the news site https://halktv.com.tr, on charges of ‘publicly disseminating misleading information.’

TOLGA ŞARDAN WAS ALSO DETAINED

T24 columnist Tolga Şardan was also detained yesterday as part of an investigation launched ex officio by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office following his article titled "What is in the 'judiciary report' that the MIT presented to the Presidency?"

It was noted that a few hours before his own detention, Gökçe had retweeted a social media post regarding the detention of T24 columnist Tolga Şardan.
