A denial has come from the lawyer of Murat Koçak, the former Head of the Machinery Supply Department of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality who was arrested as part of an investigation, regarding the report titled 'İzmir Metropolitan Municipality funded Halk TV' published in the pro-government newspaper Yeni Şafak.
In the rebuttal statement issued through Koçak's lawyer, Eren Toprak, it was stated that the expressions in the report claiming 'Murat Koçak, who benefited from effective remorse provisions within the scope of the investigation, admitted to taking bribes' do not reflect the truth.
The statement emphasized that Murat Koçak did not benefit from effective remorse provisions at any stage of the investigation, that he gave negative responses to questions in this direction, and that he denied the accusations in his statements to law enforcement, the prosecutor's office, and the criminal judgeship of peace.
The rebuttal text stated that this situation is confirmed by the records in the investigation file. It was noted that writing that he 'confessed to the crime' before an indictment had even been prepared against Koçak violates the presumption of innocence and personal rights.
The statement also announced that a criminal complaint will be filed regarding the report in question.
