Can Holding, which also owns Bilgi University and Doğa Colleges, has taken over all of Turgay Ciner’s shares in Ciner Yayın Holding.

While Turgay Ciner’s withdrawal from the media has caused a stir, journalist Fatih Altaylı wrote a noteworthy piece regarding the sale in question.

In the article published on his own website, Altaylı pointed out that the management would continue to be led by Kenan Tekdağ, stating, “There will be no changes at Habertürk. It will be almost exactly as it has been until now.”

What I know is this. The Ciner Media Group was two separate structures. Among these, Habertürk television, radio, and the Habertürk website were under the management of Kenan Tekdağ, while Bloomberg and Show TV were under Didem Ciner. Tekdağ was responsible for news-related broadcasts, while Didem Ciner was responsible for entertainment-related business. Turgay Ciner, on the other hand, had rarely visited the media group for almost 10 years. It was no secret that he wanted to sell the group.

RUMORS OF 800 MILLION DOLLARS

He was simply a seller who was not in a rush, waiting for the right price and a buyer with the capacity to purchase. Some time ago, Halk TV boss Cafer Mahiroğlu told me that he wanted to buy the group but that they could not reach an agreement. Now the sale has taken place, and Can Holding has become the new owner of the group for an undisclosed amount, which is rumored to be close to 800 million dollars.

CINER WILL HAVE PEACE OF MIND

It was already known that Kenan Tekdağ was a relative of the owners of Can Holding, and Kenan Bey was already serving on the board of trustees and management of Bilgi University, which is owned by Can Holding. And Kenan Tekdağ will continue to be at the head of the former Ciner, now Can, or perhaps Bilgi Media Group. Kenan Tekdağ has been the one determining the group’s editorial policy for years anyway.
