WHY WAS AYŞE BARIM DETAINED?

In operations carried out by teams from the Istanbul Organized Crime Branch Directorate under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that talent manager Emine Ayşe Barım was in intense communication with Gezi Park protest defendants Mehmet Osman Kavala, Çiğdem Mater Utku, and Memet Ali Alabora.

It was determined that Barım directed the artists working at her company to participate in the Gezi Park protests.

In a statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated: "Analyses conducted regarding the suspect determined that between 29/05/2013 and 02/06/2013, the start date of the Gezi Park Events, Emine Ayşe Barım directed artists affiliated with ID İletişim Danışmanlık A.Ş., which she owns, to participate in the events during her meetings with them, and that she herself participated in these protests along with the artists. Furthermore, it was stated that Barım was one of the planners of the events and was detained for the crime of 'Attempting to Overthrow the Government of the Republic of Turkey or Preventing it from Performing its Duties'." Police teams are searching Barım's home and workplace.

STATEMENT FROM DIRECTOR İSMAİL GÜNEŞ REGARDING AYŞE BARIM

İsmail Güneş stated that two of his projects were harmed due to the interference of Emine Ayşe Barım. Güneş said that his acquaintance with Halit Ergenç went back many years and that he presented him with a new project in 2014, but learned that Ergenç had agreed to another film project. After Ergenç liked the project, the casting director of the film project conveyed that Barım had complained in an angry manner about meetings being held without her knowledge.

Barım threatened Güneş by saying, "I will not give you any actors." Güneş stated that Halit Ergenç was his friend and that he did not need permission to meet with him. He then said that he offered roles to actors for the project, but the actors withdrew from the project due to Barım's interference. He stated that even after the film was completed, they had difficulty getting it released and that it was hard to convince distributors, which he believes happened due to Barım's influence.

WHO IS AYŞE BARIM?

Ayşe Barım was born in Istanbul and began her education there. The 54-year-old Barım completed her middle and high school education at the English High School for Girls and then graduated from Boğaziçi University, Department of English Language and Literature. Continuing her education in London, Barım studied communication there for two years and gained various work experiences. Following her return to Turkey, she embarked on a rapid career journey in the media sector.
