Halk TV Editor-in-Chief Suat Toktaş announced that he has resigned from his position following the appointment of a trustee to the channel. Toktaş announced his decision in a post on his social media account.
In his post, Toktaş stated that he refused to work under a trustee and was stepping down as editor-in-chief of Halk TV. Sharing his resignation letter with the public, Toktaş included the following statement in the letter: "I am resigning from the position of editor-in-chief, which I have held since January 10, 2024, as I refuse to work with a trustee."
The process concerning Halk TV had come to the agenda within the scope of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into Cafer Mahiroğlu. It was reported that the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) had been appointed as a trustee for the channel's assets, which were seized on October 14.
Toktaş's resignation was recorded as the first high-level departure from within the institution following the appointment of the trustee.
