Halk TV, NOW TV, Tele1... The Ülkü Ocakları demanded, RTÜK rained down fines on opposition channels!

The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has rained down fines on opposition channels.

Acting upon the complaint of Ülkü Ocakları Chairman Ahmet Yiğit Yıldırım, RTÜK issued a 3 percent administrative fine to Halk TV, NOW TV, SZC TV, and Tele 1.

The opposition channels were fined by a majority vote on the grounds that they "influenced the judicial process and its impartiality" by reporting on footage showing MHP-affiliated lawyer Serdar Öktem, who is currently in custody in connection with the murder of Sinan Ateş, at the same hospital at the same time as Ülkü Ocakları Chairman Ahmet Yiğit Yıldırım.

RTÜK also issued a 3 percent administrative fine to Sözcü TV for "painting a pessimistic picture regarding the decline of equal opportunity in Turkey" with the statement, "It is debatable how much a child from a village in Elazığ can reach these positions now."

The fines were announced by İlhan Taşcı, an RTÜK member from the CHP, via the social media platform X.

NOW TV was also issued a 3 percent administrative fine and a 3-episode broadcast suspension for the series "Şakir Paşa Ailesi," which was found to be contrary to moral values, general morality, and the principle of protecting the family.

Star TV was issued a 3 percent administrative fine for the program "Zahide Yetiş ile Yeniden Başlamak" due to content in 6 different episodes that violated the protection of the family and general morality, as well as the inclusion of "matchmaking scenes" which are prohibited from being broadcast.

Taşcı made the following statements:

"RTÜK deemed the records in the case file a crime! RTÜK issued a 3 percent administrative fine by majority vote to Halk TV, NOW TV, SZC TV, and Tele 1 for reporting on footage showing MHP-affiliated lawyer Serdar Öktem, who is in custody in connection with the Sinan Ateş murder case, at the same hospital at the same time as Ülkü Ocakları Chairman Ahmet Yiğit Yıldırım, on the grounds that they 'influenced the judicial process and its impartiality.' Ahmet Yiğit Yıldırım, who visited the defendant Serdar Öktem, was also in the file as a murder suspect at that time. In what country is it seen that a suspect in custody is visited by another suspect in a hospital!? The petition submitted to RTÜK by Yıldırım's lawyer contains neither a power of attorney nor a bar association stamp. The petition is not in accordance with the law! But RTÜK punished journalism with the 'law of the powerful.'

A 3 percent administrative fine was issued to SZC TV because TÜSİAD President Orhan Turan, a guest on Özlem Gürses's program, stated that he benefited from equal opportunity in his childhood and painted a pessimistic picture regarding the decline of equal opportunity in Turkey with the words, 'It is debatable how much a child from a village in Elazığ can reach these positions now.' The RTÜK President continues to wield the stick of punishment against those who criticize the government."

FINE FOR NOW TV DUE TO THE ŞAKIR PAŞA SERIES

NOW TV was issued a 3 percent administrative fine and a 3-episode broadcast suspension for the Şakir Paşa scenes in episodes 5 and 6 of the series "Şakir Paşa Ailesi," the first 2 episodes of which had already been fined, on the grounds that they were contrary to moral values, general morality, and the principle of protecting the family.
