Is Meta applying 'shadowbanning' on Facebook and Instagram for pro-Palestinian posts? What is shadowbanning? Is shadowbanning censorship?
The conflict between Israel and Palestine in the Gaza Strip continues on its 10th day. So, is Meta applying shadowbanning on Instagram and Facebook? Does Twitter (X) have shadowbanning? Here are all the details.
It has been alleged that shadowbanning is being applied on Instagram, which is owned by Meta.
According to a report by Haber Global, many social media users stated that their pro-Palestinian posts were being blocked and that the reach of stories related to Gaza and Palestine had dropped significantly. Following the backlash, Meta issued a statement announcing that there had been an issue but that the problem had been resolved.
WHAT IS SHADOWBANNING?
This type of censorship, referred to as 'stealth banning' or 'ghost banning,' prevents content from being seen partially or entirely. When such censorship is applied, the person who made the post can see their own content, but their followers can only see it on their timeline.
IS TWITTER/ X APPLYING IT?
It is unknown whether such a practice exists on X, where almost all official statements regarding the conflict are made and where the world follows the agenda.
