Journalist and author Hüseyin Aykol has passed away in the hospital where he had been receiving treatment since October 14 following a brain hemorrhage.

Journalist Hüseyin Aykol has passed away

Journalist and author Hüseyin Aykol has passed away following approximately two and a half months of intensive care treatment.

After suffering a brain hemorrhage at his home, Aykol was taken to Sincan Training and Research Hospital, where he suffered a third brain hemorrhage and had been kept in intensive care since October 14.

WHO IS HÜSEYİN AYKOL?

Born in 1952 in the Salihli district of Manisa, Hüseyin Aykol graduated from İzmir College. Aykol began his education at the Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, and after three years, he continued his studies at the Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences, where he studied for four years.

Before the September 12 coup, Aykol worked as a translator and editor at Ser Publishing House and was a member of the Writers Syndicate of Turkey. He published the Turkish edition of the magazine Socialism: Theory and Practice, which was published in approximately 40 countries. After spending about ten years in prison during the September 12 period, he returned to journalism and publishing activities.

In the early 1990s, Aykol took part in the establishment of the weekly newspaper Halk Gerçeği, and in the following years, he continued his work in publications such as Özgür Ülke, Özgür Gündem, Özgürlükçü Demokrasi, and Yeni Yaşam. For the last 20 years, he worked for monthly magazines as well as weekly and daily newspapers.

Primarily working as a world news editor, Hüseyin Aykol also served as editor-in-chief for several publications. Aykol has numerous translated and original works.
