Judicial control decision regarding journalist Tolga Şardan lifted
The judicial control condition imposed on journalist Tolga Şardan, who was arrested on charges of "publicly disseminating misleading information" under the Disinformation Law, has been lifted.
A new development has occurred regarding Tolga Şardan, who was arrested citing the "Disinformation Law" due to his article claiming that the MIT had prepared a report for the Presidency regarding corruption and irregularities in the judiciary.
Lawyers for Şardan, who was arrested under the Disinformation Law for the crime of "publicly disseminating misleading information"—an offense that does not typically require arrest under normal circumstances—submitted an appeal petition to the Istanbul 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace on November 6. Şardan was released on the same day under judicial control conditions.
Şardan's lawyers, Aslı Kazan and Serdar Laçin, appealed the judicial control decision issued on November 13. The Istanbul 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance decided on November 24 to lift the judicial control condition as well.
