Long-watched documentary channel withdraws from Turkey

US-based History Channel ceased its broadcasts in Turkey as of December 31, 2025. In a farewell message displayed during the channel's final broadcast, it thanked the viewers who had followed them for years.

The channel, which first began broadcasting in Turkey in 2006, had drawn attention with its history, documentary, and research-themed programs. It had built a unique audience in documentary broadcasting with a wide range of content spanning from ancient times to the modern era.

According to information reported by Halk TV, History Channel first began broadcasting globally in 1995. Operating under A+E Networks, the channel had entered the Turkish market as part of its expansion strategy across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Among the productions that helped History Channel gain a loyal audience in Turkey were programs such as “Ancient Aliens”, “Pawn Stars”, “Vikings”, “The Curse of Oak Island”, and “Forged in Fire”. The channel was known for its broadcasting style that blended historical storytelling with dramatic fiction and strong visual elements.
