The new management of the Journalists Union of Turkey has been determined. Gökhan Durmuş was elected as President, Banu Tuna as General Secretary, Murad Sezer as General Financial Secretary, Esra Yalçınalp as General Organizing Secretary, and Didem Mercan as General Education Secretary.
The Journalists Union of Turkey’s 23rd Ordinary General Assembly was held on September 30-October 1, 2023, at the Burhan Felek Conference Hall.
At the general assembly, which opened on the first day after reaching a quorum, Türk-İş Education Secretary/TEKSİF President Nazmi Irgat, along with Mazlum Vesek and Hilal Tok, were elected to the council board.
The general assembly was also attended by guests including representatives from unions affiliated with the TÜRK-İŞ Confederation (Kristal-İş Union President Bilal Çetintaş, Sağlık-İş Union President Hakan Toy, TOLEYİS President Cemail Bakındı, Sağlık-İş Union Vice President Süleyman Turgut, Basın İş Union General Secretary Ahmet Özbakır, Deriteks Union Board Member Binali Tay, HABER-SEN Branch President Deniz Salmanlı, HABER-SEN General Press, Publication, Education, Social and External Relations Secretary Banu Savaş) and press professional organizations.
In the elections held with a single list, Gökhan Durmuş was elected President, A. Banu Tuna as General Secretary, Murad Sezer as General Financial Secretary, Esra Yalçınalp as General Organizing Secretary, and Didem Mercan as General Education Secretary.
The final declaration of the 23rd Ordinary General Assembly addressed topics such as the economic crisis in Turkey, press freedom, and the personal rights of journalists.
