The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has imposed an administrative fine on Sözcü TV on the grounds that it did not broadcast a right of reply and correction text despite a court order.
According to the statement made by RTÜK, the Supreme Council addressed the broadcast violation regarding the right of reply and correction for Sözcü TV during this week's meeting. The broadcast subject to the review was a news report aired on the channel's main news bulletin under the headline "polar-ization" (kutup'laştırma).
It was stated that the news report in question included allegations that the individuals who were part of the scientific team traveling to Antarctica were unqualified and that the trip was intended for tourism purposes. Following this, the Ministry of Industry and Technology applied to the judiciary for the publication of a right of reply and correction text.
The statement indicated that the Ankara 48th Criminal Court of First Instance had issued a final decision to "Accept the Request for Correction"; however, the channel did not broadcast the correction and reply text despite this ruling.
RTÜK announced that the administrative fine was imposed on the grounds that Sözcü TV violated the provision in Law No. 6112 on the Establishment and Broadcasting Services of Radio and Television, which states that "broadcasters must respect the right of reply and correction of individuals or organizations."
