RTÜK President calls on media organizations for cautious broadcasting
RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin has called on broadcasters to act responsibly, pointing to an increase in misinformation and divisive rhetoric in the media following Israel's attack on Iran.
RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin stated in a post on social media that misinformation and divisive expressions have been spreading rapidly across various media platforms following Israel's attack on Iran.
Şahin emphasized that, in particular, hateful comments made by some broadcasters that are sectarian in nature and contrary to the essence of Islam are incompatible with freedom of the press.
Stating that such irresponsible expressions threaten social peace, Şahin warned broadcasters to avoid content based on sources other than official authorities.
Şahin reminded media organizations of their responsibilities, saying, "Informing the public accurately should be the most important duty of media organizations.
Our institution is meticulously continuing the necessary examinations and evaluations within the framework of the legislation."
