RTÜK rains down fines
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has imposed fines and content removal sanctions on five digital platforms due to content deemed contrary to national and moral values. Disney, Prime Video, Netflix, HBO Max, and MUBI were each hit with an administrative fine of 3 percent.
RTÜK continues its efforts to align digital media and television content with family values within the framework of the 2025 Year of the Family. In this context, a decision was made to impose maximum-level fines and content removal orders on five digital platforms, citing that certain productions contained material contrary to national and moral values.
The film 'All of Us Strangers,' broadcast on the Disney platform, received a 3 percent administrative fine and a content removal sanction for containing scenes that affirm homosexuality and conflict with family values. The series 'Those About To Die,' available on Prime Video, was subjected to the same sanctions due to its bloody execution scenes and the presentation of homosexual relationships with sexually explicit content.
The film 'Cobalt Blue,' broadcast on Netflix, was penalized by RTÜK for scenes deemed to promote homosexuality. The film 'Looking: The Movie,' available on HBO Max, also faced similar penalties due to its heavy use of homosexual relationships and nudity.
Finally, the film 'Benedetta,' broadcast on the MUBI platform, received a 3 percent administrative fine and a content removal sanction due to its obscene content, which reached the level of pornography, and scenes deemed disrespectful to religious beliefs. RTÜK stated that such content harms the general morality and family structure of society, emphasizing that these sanctions will continue.
