RTÜK rains down fines on opposition television channels: 'Penalty' for Kızıl Goncalar announced
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has rained down fines on opposition television channels. RTÜK also imposed an administrative fine and a 2-episode broadcast suspension on the popular TV series Kızıl Goncalar.
CHP-affiliated Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) member İlhan Taşcı announced the fines imposed by RTÜK on opposition television channels in a post on his X account. The popular TV series Kızıl Goncalar was handed a 2-episode broadcast suspension.
RAIN OF FINES ON KIZIL GONCALAR
Taşcı's post is as follows:
"The Supreme Council imposed a 3% administrative fine and a 2-episode broadcast suspension on the series Kızıl Goncalar, which fictionally depicts the inner workings of sects and religious communities, on the grounds that it is contrary to the 'national and spiritual values of society.' Other heavy fines imposed by RTÜK:
2- A 3% administrative fine was imposed on Fox TV on the grounds that it did not act 'impartially' in its evaluations regarding the death of courier Yunus Emre Göçer, who was hit by the son of the Somali President, and the attack by former Ankaragücü president Faruk Koca on referee Halil Umut Meler.
3- A 3% administrative fine was imposed on Halk TV on the allegation that it presented a 'terrorist act, its perpetrators, and its victims in a way that would produce results serving the purposes of terrorism'; a 3% administrative fine was also imposed on the same channel for being contrary to national and spiritual values due to evaluations regarding the LGBT+ issue.
4- RTÜK decided by majority vote to impose a 3% administrative fine on SZC TV on the grounds of violating 'impartiality' due to the reporting of remarks by a TUIK employee claiming that they received bonuses and promotions in exchange for underreporting unemployment.
5- RTÜK decided to impose a 3% administrative fine on Tele 1 for 'belittling individuals'; a 3% fine on the same channel for a program where money laundering methods were discussed; and a 3% administrative fine for 'praising a criminal' on a program where Yılmaz Güney was discussed.
6- A 3% administrative fine was imposed on KRT for 'belittling' after Zafer Arapkirli criticized Minister of Labor Işıkhan's remarks that 'there is no extreme poverty' and criticized Minister of Health Koca's hand gesture regarding doctors who go abroad for 'money'.
STARBUCKS FINE
7- A 3% administrative fine was imposed on TGRT for 'covert commercial communication' due to a Starbucks cup appearing in a news bulletin."
1- RTÜK has bowed to sects and religious communities!
