The 48th TGC Sedat Simavi Awards have been presented: Awards and commendations for Timur Soykan, Asuman Aranca, and Emrullah Erdinç

The recipients of the 2024 Turkish Journalists Association (TGC) Sedat Simavi Awards have been announced. 

The awards, which have been presented for 48 years in the name of TGC Founding President Sedat Simavi, who passed away on December 11, 1953, are given in the fields of journalism, television, radio, caricature, literature, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, and sports. The date and venue of the award ceremony will be shared at a later time.

The names and works deemed worthy of the 2024 Sedat Simavi Awards are as follows:

JOURNALISM AWARD:

Timur Soykan

He was deemed worthy of the award for his report titled "The wheels of justice turned with bribery," published in BirGün newspaper on October 13, 2023.

JOURNALISM COMMENDATION:

Asuman Aranca

She was deemed worthy of commendation for her report titled "The photo reporting the Sinan Ateş murder to the assassination gang has emerged: The 'mission accomplished' pose from the courier who transported the hitman!" published on the T24 news website on April 27 and May 9, 2024.

RADIO AWARD:

Vahide Feray Uz – Abdullah Koltuk

They were deemed worthy of the award for the radio program titled   "The Night Without a Tomorrow: February 6," broadcast on TRT Voice of Turkey Radio on February 6, 2024.

RADIO COMMENDATION:

Dr. Cem Kurtçu

He was deemed worthy of commendation for the radio program titled "From Pages to the Screen," broadcast on TRT Radio 1 on December 25, 2023.

TELEVISION AWARD                  

NEWS AWARD:

Ayşegül Altın

Awarded for the news report titled "A Gifted State Asset," which aired on HALK TV on May 21-22-23, 2024.  The report was deemed worthy of the award.

NEWS COMMENDATION:

Yeşim Karacaoğlu – Gökhan Arıkan

Deemed worthy of commendation for their joint news program titled "Cheap Meat Queue in the Darkness of the Night," which aired on NOW TV on February 22, 2024.

DOCUMENTARY AWARD:

Emrullah Erdinç

He was deemed worthy of the award for the documentary program "Olası Kast" (Probable Intent), which aired on the 140 Journos YouTube channel on March 21, 2024.

DOCUMENTARY COMMENDATION:

Kerem Şenel

He was deemed worthy of commendation for the documentary program titled "Turkey's Stars: Uğur Mumcu," which aired on SÖZCÜ TV on May 25, 2024.

CARICATURE AWARD:

Erdoğan Karayel

He was deemed worthy of the award for his caricature titled

 "The Conquest of Istanbul / Yesterday and Today," published in the international e-Humor Magazine Don Quichotte on August 24, 2024.

LITERATURE AWARD:

Şebnem İşigüzel

She was deemed worthy of the award for her novel titled "Memoria."

LITERATURE COMMENDATION:

Fügen Ünal Şen

She was found worthy of commendation for her work titled "Hold My Hand Istanbul: The Novel of the Occupation 1918-1923."

SOCIAL SCIENCES AWARD:

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eylem Ümit Atılgan

Awarded for her work titled "Unjust Provocation: A Right to Masculinity."

SOCIAL SCIENCES COMMENDATION:

Prof. Dr. Öner Günçavdı

Commended for his work titled "How Did We Grow? An Analytical Review of Growth After 2001."

NATURAL SCIENCES AWARD:

Prof. Dr. Sinem Onaran

was deemed worthy of the award for their work titled "Legendre Hopf Links."

HEALTH SCIENCES AWARD:

Prof. Dr. Ceyda Açılan Ayhan

was deemed worthy of the award for their work titled "Using Epigenetic Targets to Overcome Taxane Resistance in Prostate Cancer."

was deemed worthy of the award for their work.

SPORTS AWARD:

Women's Goalball National Team

was deemed worthy of the award for becoming the "Paris Paralympic Games Champion."

SPORTS COMMENDATION:

Kuzey Tunçelli

Found worthy of commendation for becoming the "European Junior Swimming Champion."
