They explained it one by one: A 'Palestine letter' from the BBC to Al Jazeera that reads like a confession

According to a report by Al Jazeera, 8 UK-based employees of the BBC allegedly sent a letter to Al Jazeera in which they expressed their view that their organization has adopted a pro-Israel stance in the Israel-Hamas conflict and has not given sufficient space to Palestinian civilians compared to Israelis.

In the letter, the reporters accused their organization of maintaining a biased stance in favor of Israel.

"THE BBC ONLY USES TERMS LIKE MASSACRE FOR HAMAS"

The letter alleged that the BBC, which took a "bold" stance in its reporting on the war crimes allegedly committed by Russia in Ukraine, applies a "double standard regarding how civilians are viewed" in the Israel-Palestine issue.

The letter stated, "The BBC has failed to tell the story accurately by not approaching Israel's claims critically, and therefore has failed to help the public understand the human rights violations occurring in Gaza."

Pointing out that thousands of Palestinians have been killed since October 7, the letter asked, "When will this number be high enough to change our editorial stance?"

In the letter, BBC reporters stated that the organization uses terms such as "massacre" and "atrocity" "only for Hamas and portrays Hamas as the sole instigator and perpetrator of the violence in the region."

"HUMANITARIAN COVERAGE HAS BEEN LACKING"

The letter included the statement, "We ask the BBC to better reflect and give credence to the evidence-based findings of official and impartial humanitarian organizations."

BBC employees also called on their organization to "ensure that equal treatment of all civilians is at the heart of its reporting."

The letter pointed out that the BBC's broadcasts have given extensive coverage to Israelis who lost their lives in the attacks, and made the following assessment:

"In contrast, humanitarian coverage of Palestinian civilians has been lacking. To say that the BBC cannot better convey stories from Gaza due to difficulties in accessing the Gaza Strip is a weak excuse. This could be achieved, for example, by telling and following individual stories over weeks. There has also been very little attempt to fully utilize the abundance of social media content from brave journalists in Gaza and the West Bank."

The letter also stated that the BBC has not provided its audience with important information regarding the history of the Israeli occupation and the suffering of the Palestinians.

STATEMENT FROM THE BBC

In an email sent to Al Jazeera, a BBC spokesperson responded to the allegations by saying, "Throughout our coverage of the conflict, the BBC has clearly set out the devastating human cost for civilians living in Gaza and Israel."

The spokesperson also sent a list containing examples of the BBC's war-related broadcasts and human interest stories regarding the suffering of Palestinians.
