Yılmaz Özdil earthquake at Sözcü TV

Yılmaz Özdil, who took charge of Sözcü TV approximately 4 months ago, has resigned from his post.

According to information reported by Yeniçağ Newspaper, Özdil made the decision to resign following recent controversies with politicians and submitted his letter to the channel's owner, Burak Akbay.

HIS POST HAD DRAWN ATTENTION

Özdil, who had criticized CHP members Gökhan Günaydın and Burhanettin Bulut, had used the following expressions in a post he made yesterday:

“I congratulate Burhanettin Bulut and Gökhan Günaydın… I did my best to defend independent journalism, risking being stoned by the very people we fought for; I told the truth exactly as it is, and life will surely teach what I failed to convey.”

These words were interpreted by the public as a “farewell message.”

HE HAD TAKEN THE POST FOR THE SECOND TIME

Özdil, who was part of the first management team after Sözcü TV was established approximately 3 years ago, had left his post shortly thereafter.

Özdil was brought back to the position of President of the Sözcü Media Group at the beginning of December, and in this capacity, he had also taken charge of Sözcü TV.

CHANGES HAD BEEN MADE IN MANAGEMENT

Following Özdil's appointment, notable changes had taken place within the institution. During this process, the organization parted ways with 14 people.

Under Özdil's management, İpek Özbey was brought in as Editor-in-Chief of Sözcü TV, while Güney Öztürk was appointed as General Manager.

It was stated that the channel's legal processes were being handled by lawyer Ersan Barkın.
