BTP leader Hüseyin Baş: 'Turkey is heading toward an economic crisis'

Independent Turkey Party (BTP) Chairman Hüseyin Baş attended his party's 9th Ordinary Konya Provincial Congress.

Speaking at the congress where Hasan Öztürk was elected provincial chairman, Hüseyin Baş made assessments regarding the current agenda.

BTP leader Baş said the following;

“The Independent Turkey Party is a political party that has been participating in elections for over 23 years; it has been nearly 24 years since its establishment. The BTP was founded in 2001, and the foundation of the politics it has conducted in Turkey to this day has been built upon national unity and solidarity; it is a political party whose rhetoric has always been in favor of national unity and solidarity, and which defends the unshakable integrity and indivisibility of the state.

'WE ARE RAPIDLY HEADING TOWARD AN ECONOMIC CRISIS'

I see that Turkey is rapidly heading toward an economic crisis that may perhaps become inextricable at the end of this environment, much like a truck with failed brakes going downhill… We are already facing all kinds of troubles, there is evil, we are confronted with all kinds of negativity. On the other hand, when something emerges like the political power putting pressure on people, marginalizing them, and trying to silence them in some way, what happens? For many years in Turkey, it has always been discussed; they say, ‘We need foreign investment, we need investors from abroad.’ In such a position, let alone a foreign investor, even your own domestic investor does not want to invest or do business in this country. Everyone wants to escape somewhere. Do we only see this in investors? No. We see this in the youth; the brightest minds of Turkey, who have reached university age and finished their degrees, are seeking their futures abroad. We see this, we observe it. Doctors want to go abroad, engineers want to go abroad, artists want to go abroad, artisans want to go abroad; whoever you can think of wants to go abroad and does not want to stay here. To keep them here, the government says, ‘Let us give you a little more money, stay.’ However, they do not understand this; people are not leaving just for money. This is not an issue that can be solved with money alone. People are looking for peace, people are looking for tranquility; they want to smile when they go to work in the morning and smile when they return from work in the evening, but today you look and see that everyone going to work in the morning is frowning. We are experiencing that there is an economic problem in Turkey; look, we are not just observing it, we are living it. Everyone is experiencing this high cost of living; the business person is unhappy with the high costs, the industrialist is unhappy with the high costs and inflation. Every segment of Turkey has reached a state where they are no longer observers of the event, but are experiencing it firsthand and perceiving it as such. Therefore, when we look at the cause of this, we can list many things, but the first thing we must put at the top is this: if we are not happy, if we are not peaceful, and if we do not believe that we can protect our own rights and laws, you cannot make any economic improvement in that country.

We need to do this, oh administrators; Haydar Hoca wrote a National Economy Model, and we need to lift Turkey up in the light of this model; we need to do this today, not tomorrow.

'IF YOU DO NOT HAVE WHEAT, YOU ARE DEFEATED IN EVERY WAR'

The biggest problem in Turkey is this: the seller cannot make money from the goods they sell, and the buyer cannot afford the goods with the money in their pocket when purchasing. The farmer produces, but the product does not make money, so the farmer has started to stop producing. The hazelnut grower has started to stop producing. Tomorrow, the wheat producer will stop producing, the fruit producer will stop producing, the citrus producer will stop producing, and the livestock farmer will stop producing and raising.

Farmer, agriculture, livestock, food… Food is a strategic sector. You can have as many weapons as you want, but if you do not have bread, if you do not have wheat, you are defeated in every war you enter. In other words, whatever that UAV flying in the air is, whatever that drone is, whatever the rifle you hold in your hand is, the wheat you plant in the field and the farmer's product are the same. As Turkey, we possess a geography capable of raising the world's most powerful farmers.

In every sector, the seller determines the price, but when it comes to the Turkish farmer, the buyer determines the price. There are bloodsuckers in between. The state will eliminate them and bring the seller and the marketer together, and the marketer and the buyer together, and everything will find its balance. Look, I swear, revitalizing the Turkish economy is the simplest job in the world. The producers of this nation are the most capable and talented producers in the world. There is no problem with our work, but there is a problem with the value of our labor. While a worker in Europe or the USA can earn money equivalent to 150, 200, or 300 thousand Turkish liras today, our biggest dream in Turkey is for the pension to be 20 thousand liras instead of 14, etc. If they increased it by one hundred percent, what would happen? Would they have received a good pension? There is no such thing. Therefore, our dreams are currently being destroyed. It is time for us to set our goals high. We are a nation capable of achieving anything. We have this ability, and we have the knowledge and experience to ensure it.
