Cübbeli Ahmet links frost event that hit apricots to adultery

Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü, known to the public as 'Cübbeli Ahmet', offered a controversial interpretation of the causes of the agricultural frost that occurred in Malatya in April and damaged apricot trees.

Ünlü claimed that this event was caused by an increase in sins within society.

Ünlü, who attended the opening of the Şapkırı Osman Mosque built in the Kuluncak district of Malatya, later spoke at the Indoor Sports Hall in the city center.

In his speech, touching upon the causes of disasters, Ünlü stated, "At the forefront of forbidden acts is the neglect of prayer, followed by alcohol and interest. The biggest issue, however, is adultery. This adultery has run rampant. There are even pilgrims and religious scholars who fall into this. I look at their faces. God has given me some insight, more or less. There is a blackness on their faces. There is light in a Black person, while there is blackness in a fair-skinned man. That blackness is the blackness of adultery. There is a lot of adultery in this society. It certainly exists in Malatya as well. It exists even among those who pray. They go on Hajj, return, and commit adultery. It is very bad. Then they scream at the top of their lungs saying 'the apricots burned.' If only we had repented for our sins before the apricots burned."
