For our honor

I will not write a long article this week. Not because there is nothing left to analyze, connect, or footnote; on the contrary, it is because everything fits into a single day. Keeping the minutes of one day is enough. Without adding commentary.

In Ankara, in front of the Constitutional Court, a retired police officer ended his life. He had a Turkish flag on him and a sign in his hand: "Not for money, but for our honor." I did not write this sentence. A man who wore the state's uniform for years chose this sentence as his final words in front of the highest judicial gate of the state. He left it not to the state, but to us. Who the "we" in that sentence is, everyone knows for themselves. Any word said about it diminishes the sentence; that is why I will not say any.

On the same day, it was announced that 954 million in foreign currency was seized in the vehicle of a criminal known as "Kara Haydar" from Van. Inside a single vehicle. As for the fund embezzlement involving billions in foreign currency, it has already surpassed one of the biggest heists in the history of the Republic: one hundred and thirty funds have been taken into liquidation, the destination of the money is clear, but there is no hand to bring back what is gone.

A scrap dealer died after being run over by a garbage truck. Despite an army inventory that is turning into scrap, the pens that defend the paid-for F-35s and the S-400s alleged to have become unusable all day long as a matter of duty did not mention the scrap dealer. Scrap was their business; the scrap dealer was not.

A meatball shop owner lost his life today after a person who did not want to pay the bill crushed his head with a cobblestone. His child was by his side while his father was being murdered. That child will grow up in a country where a bill is equivalent to a human life; he will grow up knowing this.

And from those who fell for the bait of the bankrupt funds, a very serious proposal came: "Just this once, 250 liras from every subscriber on every phone bill." The bill for greed is for the entire public. The logic is not new; for a quarter of a century in this country, the address to which every bankruptcy, every tender, and every guaranteed passage is charged is the same: the masses.

All of this fit into the same day, and not a single sentence came from those who spew every insult at "Kemalism" and "secularists" with malice regarding these deaths. Those who declare secular morality the sole cause of every decay in society did not say a word about the scrap dealer, the meatball shop owner, or the retired police officer. For them, there is a hierarchy of death: a death that does not serve to blame a certain mentality does not count as a death.

Imagine a government: at the end of a quarter-century, it feels no political responsibility for the misery that has become rampant, the bankruptcy of justice, infant deaths, or the criminalization seeping into the streets. A judiciary to hold them accountable? The judiciary is already their tool. A dual legal system is in effect in this country: while comedians are thrown into Silivri's high-security block number 9 for their stage shows and journalists for a social media post, the perpetrators of crimes that will go down in history are quite comfortable. Words are a crime, but embezzlement is free.

On the other hand, there are fugitives abroad, such as Cevheri Güven and similar so-called journalists who are members of an espionage organization. They target this country's unsolved murders, the Kozinoğlu murder, and the victims of their own conspiracy eras, conducting perception executions against their rivals. Yet, they have not said a single word about Fethullah and his gang, who attacked the public with the state's jets and tanks and stole the questions and futures of the children of mothers who cleaned stairs and fathers who worked as porters. What was done to Türkan Saylan, Kuddusi Okkır, and this country; the uniformed bandits who occupied the Police Intelligence Department and the Air Force are still their heroes. One does not need to be a partner in one tyranny to be an opponent of another; they live as if it were necessary.

I will not write a long article this week. I have no motivation, true. But the real reason is this: analysis is done on a living body. What remains is called a record.

I am simply declaring: This government and the cult of personality it relies on are at the end of the road. This is not a prediction, not a poll commentary; it is a record left to history, like a verdict falling into a court clerk's desk. A system that has built all its institutions according to the shadow of a single person ends long before that shadow is withdrawn, not when it is. It is over. What remains is the notification.

Those of you whom I am ashamed to live with in this age and in this society: We are not afraid of you. Both you; and the privileged ones of the so-called opposition who feed off you symbiotically. Everyone who lives off the public and the rent of politics: it won't be long now. This nation will liquidate all of you; at the ballot box, in the reckoning, and in memory.

I am writing the sentence from the retired police officer's sign once more; because the entire article of this week is that sentence: Not for money, but for our honor.
