Awards presented at the 'Most Handsome Camel' contest

The 76th Traditional Camel Wrestling and Culture Festival, organized this year by the Germencik Municipality, brought vibrancy to the district. The "Most Handsome Camel Contest," one of the festival's opening events, drew significant attention. The camels were saddled and carefully decorated before taking the stage. The jury evaluated the camels and selected the most handsome one of the year. The first-place award was presented by Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu.

FIRSTS EXPERIENCED AT THE FESTIVAL

Germencik Mayor Burak Zencirci stated that they aimed to create a festive atmosphere in the district by spreading the festival over four days instead of confining it to a single day. While local products were displayed at the stands set up in Republic Square, Yörük associations also promoted their culture in traditional goat-hair tents.

Mayor Zencirci said, "We have transformed camel wrestling from being just an event into a festival where our citizens can shop and have fun starting from Thursday. We have brought vitality to our district. I hope we will also see our 176th camel wrestling event."

The Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Women's Mehter Band's marches and folk dance performances added a distinct color to the festival. Mayor Çerçioğlu and Mayor Zencirci surprised the citizens by releasing balloons into the sky, each containing a 10,000 TL gift voucher. It was announced that the person who finds the voucher can claim their prize by applying to the municipality.

CAMEL WRESTLING PREPARATIONS COMPLETED

Mayor Zencirci thanked Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu for her significant support in the preparations for the Alangüllü arena, where the camel wrestling will take place.

Stating that over 100 camels have been registered for the camel wrestling, which is the final event of the festival, Zencirci said, "If the weather permits, we will watch an enthusiastic camel wrestling event on Sunday with an audience of 10,000 people."

Following the contest, the camels took a city tour accompanied by a procession, greeting those participating in the festival. The festival will conclude with the camel wrestling to be held on Sunday.
