Nilüfer Medicine and Kuvayı Milliye Museum

Museums are the memory of past years, museums are the mirror of countries and their cities, and museums are the roadmap for future generations.

Dr. Ceyhun İrgil set his mind on building a medicine museum 20 years ago.

From the moment the idea first came to his mind until today, he has adorned his dreams with a health museum and has always taken steps toward establishing one.

As he began to collect research, documents, and information regarding the health museum, the trail led to the Kuvayı Milliye (National Forces), the War of Independence, the early years of the Turkish Red Crescent, and its importance during the War of Independence.

As the exhibition-worthy items he collected for the museum increased, the matter eventually became a financial burden.

Dr. Ceyhun İrgil began to voluntarily invest all his earnings into this endeavor.

He opened the doors of his home to the collected exhibition pieces and began to integrate with them.

Meanwhile, he also gave his word that he would display the interesting stones removed from patients' bodies during the surgeries he performed, with the patients' permission.

While he obtained some items through voluntary donations, he kept a large portion of them for years, having purchased them with his own money, to place them in the museum he planned to establish.

"İRGİL HAS POURED HIS SOUL INTO THIS WORK"

The Nilüfer Municipality allocated the museum space to him. This venue was also designed as an exhibition, meeting, and training center for the medical research center.

Since it was very crowded on the opening day, I went to see and visit this struggle of dear İrgil, especially on Sunday.

It is not a museum where you can just go and take a look for two minutes; he has truly poured his soul into the work.

Here, you will be able to witness how and by whom the name Uludağ was given, the connection between the founding of Bursaspor and the museum, and a Turkey that fought the best battle in the world against polio and epidemics, as well as the state of provincial hospitals after the proclamation of the republic.

I believe this museum will provide a great service to our city; it has a bright future, it will develop, and I believe it will become a world-class museum.

I think it is a great dedication for municipalities to take ownership of such a project, and it is the very essence of municipal service.

The more museums a city has, the longer the visiting tourists will stay in that city.

Furthermore, thanks to museums, they are beacons that shed light on the paths that future generations will take.

For this museum, which must be visited, Dr. Ceyhun İrgil says the following…

“I am giving back everything I have received and earned, both materially and spiritually, in my medical journey that began with Bursa Uludağ University, directly to my country and the people of Bursa.”

İrgil, who is a surgeon, has also received worldwide awards for the articles he has written and is also a former 26th Term CHP Bursa Member of Parliament.

When I asked him what we could do for this museum he donated to our city, he replied to me, “Come to the museum, visit it; that is the greatest help for me.”

I say, visit and see this museum, which is also open on Sundays, and at the same time, experience the old Bursa, its pharmacies, clinics, and medical centers—in short, experience history.
