Only the minaret remains from the submerged village
As the old village in Kars was submerged, only the mosque's minaret remained. Citizens visiting the area recorded the scene with their mobile phones.
Located in the Sarıkamış district of Kars, the village of Karakurt, which was evacuated following the filling of the Karakurt Dam, saw its church, old village houses, and mosque submerged; the minaret is all that remains of the 200-household village, as captured on camera.

The minaret of the Karakurt village mosque, which remains above the water, attracts the attention of citizens. Citizens who recorded the mosque minaret with their mobile phones stated that their memories were submerged along with the village.
'OUR VILLAGE IS UNDERWATER'
Expressing that their village has been buried under the water, citizens said, “This is our Karakurt village; only the mosque remains from the village. The entire village is underwater, and only the mosque's minaret is visible on the surface. We came, we saw, we were saddened, we felt sorrow. Our village, where we walked and spent our time, is now underwater.” they said.

Meanwhile, with the arrival of spring, the floodgates of the Karakurt Dam were closed, causing the entire village—including trees, the old village site, churches, and historic stone houses—to be submerged. Only the minaret of the 100-year-old mosque remains above the water's surface.
