Özdağ to Hakan Fidan: Was Erdoğan’s wet-ink signature sent to the US via special courier?
Selçuk Özdağ, Group Chairman of the Saadet Party-Future Party and Member of Parliament for Muğla, has brought allegations to the parliamentary agenda regarding the US Congress requesting to see the original wet-ink signed document of the President's decision following the vote on Sweden's NATO accession in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), as well as questions concerning F-35 and F-16 fighter jets.
Emphasizing that the decision regarding the ratification of the Protocol on the Accession of the Kingdom of Sweden to the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO) was accepted in the TBMM and published in the Official Gazette, Özdağ stated that the US Congress wanted to see the original document bearing the President's wet-ink signature. Özdağ said, "This situation must be clarified immediately, as it is of importance for the reputation of Turkish Foreign Policy, which embodies an ancient tradition, and above all, for the honor and sensitivity of the Turkish nation."
In the parliamentary question he submitted, Özdağ requested answers from Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan to the following questions:
-Despite its publication in the Official Gazette, are the allegations true that the US Congress, in addition to the decision on the ratification of the Protocol on the Accession of the Kingdom of Sweden to the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO), also wanted to see the original document with the President's wet-ink signature to be certain? Was the aforementioned document with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's wet-ink signature sent to the US via a special courier?
-What progress has been made with the US regarding the sale of F-16s to Turkey and the modernization of existing F-16s?
-Are the necessary initiatives being taken for Turkey's inclusion in the F-35 program? What is the status of the process? What kind of process planning has been made for this situation following Sweden's NATO membership?
-How much has Turkey paid for the F-35 program and project to date? What gains has our country achieved in return for the payments made?
-While allegations persist that the government approved Sweden's NATO membership in order to purchase F-16s, news reports have appeared in the media that the US Congress has approved the F-16s. Is it true that within the same timeframe, 40 new-generation F-35 fighter jets—which we are a production partner of but were not provided to us—were given to Greece for 8.6 billion US dollars?
-Are the reports reflected in the media true regarding Turkey paying 22 billion US dollars for 40 older-generation F-16 fighter jets?
-Is the fact that Greece will pay 8.6 billion US dollars for 40 new-generation F-35 fighter jets, while Turkey will pay 22 billion US dollars for older-generation F-16 fighter jets, in accordance with the previously determined percentage ratios between Turkey and Greece for NATO concepts and programs? Is any diplomatic initiative being taken on this matter?
