Tantan's Sadabat reminder: Turkey can lead regional development

While the current conflict environment in the Middle East continues, a new front has opened between Pakistan and Iran. It was announced that 9 people were killed as a result of airstrikes by Pakistan targeting shelters suspected to belong to militants in Iran's Sistan-Baluchestan province. Evaluating the developments in the Middle East, former Interior Minister Sadettin Tantan emphasized that Turkey could lead regional development.

Tantan shared his assessments regarding the agenda on his social media account. Recalling regional agreements such as the Sadabat Pact and the Balkan Entente made with regional countries in the early years of the Republic, Tantan wrote the following:

“The entry of Iran and Pakistan into a conflict environment is contrary to the interests of Turkey and the region. Turkey can end the conflict environment by establishing regional peace and development pacts and can lead regional development.

The fact that Iranian proxies are putting Egypt in a difficult position by targeting US ships in the Suez Canal, the firing of missiles at Pakistan, and Hamas initiating a war with a predetermined end have revealed that Iran is a country being used.

Turkey can lead a security and development pact by taking the lead for Iran and Pakistan, primarily, as well as Azerbaijan, other countries bordering the Caspian Sea, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt. The 5K should be declared, and our spheres of influence should be announced.

Karabakh, Kirkuk, Cyprus, Crimea, and Kosovo are interconnected Turkish border lines. These lines should be declared within the National Pact (Misak-ı Milli). Turkey needs to strengthen education internally while simultaneously making security and development moves.

If a country's education system drifts away from its own culture, it reaches a dead end. The understanding of education must be re-evaluated with a consciousness of Turkishness, and Atatürk's light must illuminate our youth and our children more than ever.

We will work harder for Turkey to overcome its internal and external problems, and we will not leave our homeland ownerless. This homeland is ours, we will protect it!

In the early years of the Republic, by leading Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan with the Sadabat Pact, action was taken against the emergence of turmoil in our region following Italy's attack on Abyssinia in 1935.

CENTO (Central Treaty Organization), formerly known as the Baghdad Pact (1955-1959), was a former mutual security and defense organization established between Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, and the United Kingdom to prevent the Soviet Union from establishing influence in the Middle East.

To ensure regional peace, the most important of global trade routes, the ancient Silk Road, must be secured, and a Turkey-centered pact must be signed together with the Turkic States in the Turkestan geography and China, taking the Sadabat Pact and the Baghdad Pact as models.

Such a move would both place Turkey at the center and consign the Greater Middle East Project of the USA—which assumes the guardianship of the world but cannot establish security in international waters and routes—to the dustbin of history. Turkey has the power and capacity to do this.”
