They haven't had enough, and they still don't! Turkey's forests continue to be handed over to mining operations
Turkey's streams, rivers, and forests continue to be handed over to capital interests. Journalist Yusuf Yavuz has brought the destruction of juniper forests to light.
Stone quarries, mining operations, and gold mines using cyanide continue to devastate Turkey's forests, mountains, and streams.
Nine workers who were trapped under the rubble in the mining disaster in İliç, Erzincan, have still not been reached. Allegations that cyanide leakage reached the stream remain on the agenda.
Stone and marble quarries opened in the Black Sea region, particularly in Rize, continue to destroy villages and forests. Forests were massacred for the stone quarry established for the port to be built in İkizdere, Rize.
The current target of mining operations is the juniper forests in Sütçüler, Isparta. Journalist and writer Yusuf Yavuz shared images of the marble quarry opened in Yeniköy, which is part of Sütçüler.
Yavuz wrote the following:
"Another undiscussed aspect of the wild mining in Turkey, which is ravaging the country's mountains to sell them for 75 kuruş per kilo, is our juniper forests. This is Yeniköy, part of Sütçüler, Isparta. A marble quarry has been opened in the heart of the pure juniper forest in the region, and one of the partners is Taiwanese."
They haven't had enough, and they still don't!
