TÜKONFED Vice President warns against 'Black Friday' discounts

Consumer Confederation (TÜKONFED) Vice President Attorney İbrahim Güllü drew attention to the discounts held at the end of every year, referred to as "Black Friday." Stating that discounts must be determined according to the "Price Tag Regulation," Güllü emphasized the need to be cautious against "fake discounts" with an example he provided.

Appearing as a guest on the Samimi Analiz program hosted by Aleyna Horasan on the Samimi Haber YouTube channel, TÜKONFED Vice President Attorney İbrahim Güllü drew attention to 'Black Friday' discounts in his speech. Güllü emphasized that the discount price a company applies to a product must be the lowest price within the last 30 days. Highlights from Güllü's speech are as follows:

"Our price tag regulation underwent a change in February 2022, and a clause was added. We can see whether there is a real discount on a product when we look at Article 11 of this regulation. 

What is this? Here, the price from which the discount is taken must be the lowest price within the last 30 days. For example, you wanted to buy a jacket. Let's assume that the sales price of this product by this company within the last 30 days was 1,000, 1,200, and 1,500 liras.

If the company says; 'I am selling my 1,500 lira product for 1,200 liras by applying a 20 percent discount, for example, this is the discounted price,' then a fake, not a real, discount has occurred here."
