Vahdettin case against Tunç Soyer! 'The real target of the questioning will be Atatürk's words'

Halk TV columnist Mehmet Tezkan evaluated the investigation launched yesterday evening by the Ministry of Interior into İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer regarding remarks he made on September 9, in which he quoted Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's Nutuk.

Tezkan commented, "If a case is filed, it will not actually be Soyer who is being tried, but Atatürk in absentia..." Stating, "I draw your attention to the fact that the investigation is being opened against the Mayor of İzmir, but the real target of the questioning will be Atatürk's words...", Tezkan used the following expressions:

"As far as I know from our 100-year history of the republic, this is a first.

They wanted to replace Atatürk with Abdülhamit; it didn't work; it didn't catch on. Now another game is being tried.

If it soon becomes a crime to say that the last sultan, Vahdettin, boarded a British battleship and fled...

If Nutuk is soon found to be objectionable...

If Vahdettin is soon written into history books as a hero...

I would not be surprised...

I repeat...

The fact that an investigation was opened against Soyer by the order of the Minister of Interior is very significant... It is like a flare. Because it reaches all the way to Atatürk..."
